Carmarthen gives you a choice between a town hotel and a separate estuary-side base at Ferryside. The signed town circular can fill an active day, but a shorter public riverside section is often enough after travel. Check weather and flooding before committing to the longer route, and settle the hotel meal arrangement in advance: Ivy Bush’s normal public-area restrictions affect how you spend the evening with your dog.
Laugharne rewards a slower break of estuary views, village streets and one chosen walk. Brown’s offers a hotel stay, while the Boat House B&B has a very specific one-dog room. The walking routes vary in length and gradient, so pick the short Birthday Walk or a longer circuit rather than treating them as interchangeable. Arrange dog-compatible meals before you arrive, particularly if staying at Brown’s.
Llandeilo makes a countryside break with Dinefwr as the main shared outing. Stay in nearby Rhosmaen for a hotel routine or choose a rural lodge for self-catering. The estate’s dog welcome is more useful than a blanket “grounds only” label: pets can enter permitted parts of Newton House and the café, but the Deer Park and boardwalk remain excluded. Keep the day to the areas your dog can join.
Use the Quay for a modest riverside outing, with the full town circular as a longer choice only when ground and weather suit. A Ferryside base is outside Carmarthen, so plan the journey before choosing it.
Choose estuary paths and village streets for a slower break. Dylan’s Birthday Walk has shorter and longer options; keep the public walk separate from paid attraction visits.
