It links town-edge paths, woodland, wetlands and the River Towy rather than staying on level town pavements throughout. You can reach the start by train or use parking options listed by the route page.
No. The route includes a flight of wooden steps, a steep climb through Coed Ystrad, a step-stile, kissing gates and a short steep climb beside the River Towy. That makes it a poor fit for a dog that cannot manage steps, steep or uneven ground, or gates. The official route notes allow you to return by road or bus if needed.
The Wales Coast Path warns that its low riverside section can flood when the River Towy bursts its banks. If that happens, return to the leisure centre and either walk back to Carmarthen by road or catch a bus.
