Buxton is a good choice when you want a dog break built around parks and handsome streets rather than a long countryside circuit. Start with Pavilion Gardens and the Crescent exterior, then consider Temple Fields for a change of scene. Both shortlisted hotels accept overnight dogs, but the Crescent’s food-area and spa exclusions make meal planning especially important.

Matlock and nearby Matlock Bath offer a Derbyshire break built around the river, gardens and a choice of canal walking. The two stays here are both in Matlock Bath, so use that as your accommodation base rather than expecting a room in Matlock town centre. New Bath publishes a fuller dog policy, while Hodgkinsons offers a smaller-hotel alternative with a one-dog limit.

Choose a relaxed town base and a manageable section of the Monsal Trail. Dogs must be on leads there; Chatsworth’s garden and park welcome dogs, while the house and farmyard do not.
Choose Pavilion Gardens and the Crescent exterior for an easy town day, with Temple Fields as another option. Plan meals around the Crescent hotel’s dog-free dining areas and spa.
