Choose a scheduled sailing and departure point that fit your day. A shorter cruise can give your dog a different experience without adding several miles of walking.

The National Trust route starts at Ash Landing, across the lake from Bowness. Its short option is 4 miles/6.4 km and the full route 8 miles/12.8 km, with woodland and shore views.
Dogs are welcome on leads. The mixed track includes short steep sections; check the route and crossing arrangements rather than assuming a level promenade from Bowness.
Settle the dog room, then check current cruise departures from your chosen pier. Keep the sailing short enough for your dog to remain comfortable and allow time for boarding and a break afterwards. Check how you will reach Ash Landing and get back before starting the National Trust walk. Choose the shorter version if 6.4 km is enough, allowing extra time for pauses and mixed surfaces. If ferry or weather conditions are unsuitable, stay around Bowness instead of forcing the crossing.
