Keep your dog close beside the water, share the towpath and check current notices. Allow for uneven or muddy surfaces.
Travel to Millington’s Wood Gate entrance for a woodland outing. The main ride is the gentler option; steep steps lead to the high viewpoint, which can easily be left out.
Dogs are welcome under close control. Stay on paths, respect wildlife and use a lead around livestock beyond the wood. There are no toilets on site.
Check into the correct pet-friendly unit and settle your meal plan. Head to Canal Head for a short out-and-back if daylight and conditions suit. Turn around before your dog tires and leave time to return to your countryside accommodation.
