Make the abbey your planned outing rather than an extra at the end of a long walk. Arriving at the headland entrance avoids climbing the 199 steps; surfaces inside include grass and uneven areas.

Visit the abbey while everyone is fresh, using the headland approach if steps are a poor fit. Follow with a beach visit only where access is permitted for your dates. Keep enough time for a towel-down and a relaxed departure rather than trying to combine every coastal sight.
