Swanage
with your dog.

Swanage makes a rewarding dog break even when the main beach is out of bounds. Durlston offers trails and a lead-controlled welcome in its castle, visitor centre and café; Monkey Beach is listed for year-round dog access. Choose between The Pines on Burlington Road and The Limes on Park Road, then arrange a dog room rather than treating every sea-view room as eligible.

GOOD DAYS OUT, TOGETHER

Things to do around Swanage

01

Durlston Country Park

Choose from the marked trails according to conditions and energy. The surfaced Woodland Trail offers a gentler option than a longer cliff-side walk, and the visitor centre adds interest without another journey.

Dogs must stay on paths, on leads or under very close control. Dogs on leads are welcome in the Castle, Visitor Centre and Café.

02

Monkey Beach

The council identifies the beach by the old stone quay near the pier as allowing dogs year-round. Keep this a short shore visit if the tide or surface limits space.

Follow current signs and tide information. This permission does not extend to Swanage’s main beach during its seasonal exclusion.

AN UNHURRIED COUPLE OF DAYS

A short break that leaves room to pause

Day one · town and a small shore outing

Settle into the dog room and enjoy a short town outing. Consider Monkey Beach only if conditions suit. Make sure the evening meal works with your dog’s permitted spaces, especially at The Limes where leaving them in the room is not allowed.

Day two · give Durlston time

Check the park’s current information and select a trail before setting off. Keep dogs on the paths and choose the gentler woodland option if a cliff route is too demanding. The lead-permitted visitor centre and café make useful pauses, subject to opening hours.

A suggested plan, not a booked itinerary. Adapt it to your dog, the weather and current access.

THE DETAILS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Good to know before you go

Check room categories at The Pines

A balcony or suite upgrade may select a room that excludes dogs. Confirm eligibility before paying.

Respect the seasonal beach boundary

The council lists Swanage Beach for dogs from 1 October to 30 April; Monkey Beach has separate year-round access.

Your Swanage questions

Can dogs go inside Durlston’s visitor centre?
